Top Students Awarded HKFI Scholarships

The Hong Kong Federation of Insurers (HKFI) today (11 April 2005) announces that eight top undergraduates from three local universities have been awarded the HKFI Scholarships 2004/2005. They are:

  • Mr Chiu Lick Him, Dennis, student of Insurance, Financial and Actuarial Analysis at the Chinese University of Hong Kong ;

  • Mr Lee Hiu Fai, Ivan, student of Insurance, Financial and Actuarial Analysis at the Chinese University of Hong Kong ;

  • Ms Chan Ching Han, Barry, student of Risk and Insurance Management at Lingnan University ;

  • Mr Ko Kwong Leung, student of Risk and Insurance Management at Lingnan University ;

  • Mr Fu Kin, student of Risk and Insurance Management at Lingnan University ;

  • Mr Ip Sze Tsun, Tony, undergraduate majoring in Actuarial Science at the University of Hong Kong ;

  • Mr Wong Siu Wai, Patrick, undergraduate majoring in Actuarial Science at the University of Hong Kong ; and

  • Miss Ng Mei Ni, undergraduate majoring in Actuarial Science at the University of Hong Kong.

Each scholar will receive a cash award of HK$ 20,000 annually.

The Honourable Frederick Ma, JP, Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, presented the scholarship certificates to these students at the HKFI 2005 Annual Dinner held on 7 April 2005.

"These scholars have a track record of remarkable achievements academically and in many other areas. We the Federation of Insurers are delighted to offer them scholarships in recognition of their accomplishments, and we look forward to their joining us in contributing to the development of the insurance industry in the years ahead upon graduation", said Mr K P Chan, Chairman of the HKFI.

Funded by the HKFI Educational Trust, the HKFI Scholarship aims to recognize and support financially local university students who have demonstrated outstanding academic performance and leadership qualities. Since its inception in 1989, the HKFI Educational Trust has awarded 66 scholarships to students from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Lingnan University and the University of Hong Kong majoring in subjects related to insurance, risk management and actuarial science.
