The Response of the Insurance Agents Registration Board to the Proposal Regarding the Institutional Set-up of the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance

18/7/2003

The Insurance Agents Registration Board (IARB) is responsible for the administration of more than 46,000 registered insurance agents in Hong Kong.

The IARB is open-minded in so far as the proposal is concerned, provided that the following could be maintained and attained.

  • The IARB maintains its independence in the administration of insurance agents;

  • The cost of agents registration be kept at a cost-effective level as it is now, which is $120 per year for each registered agent;

  • The jurisdiction of the IARB be made statutory; and

  • The administration of insurance intermediaries, agents and brokers alike, be made uniform.
