Mr Praveen Daswani has gained extensive experience in the international financial services sector having worked at both regional and international levels in various management roles encompassing business development, operations and compliance.Mr Eric Hui has accrued significant accomplishments in leading strategic business initiatives, innovative practices and market developments.
 
Under the Governing Committee of the HKFI, there are two Councils responsible for dealing with all technical matters concerning general insurance and life insurance respectively. The General Insurance Council is chaired by Mr Eric Hui while the Life Insurance Council is chaired by Mr Guy Mills.
 
Established in August 1988, the HKFI enjoys full recognition by the Hong Kong SAR Government as the representative insurer body of the industry and is responsible for the administration of close to 100,000 registered insurance agents in the territory. It exists to promote insurance to the people of Hong Kong and build consumer confidence in the industry by promoting high standards of ethics and professionalism amongst its Members.

A Chartered Insurer by Profession, Mr Praveen Daswani, is the Chairman of HKFI, a member of the HKFI Governing Committee and a Councillor of the Life Insurance Council (LIC).

He was first elected to the Life Insurance Council (LIC) in 2009 and became the LIC’s Deputy Chairman in 2016 before taking the Chairmanship of the LIC in 2017. Over the years, he has served on, or chaired, various industry task forces, committees and working groups of the HKFI. He is Chairman of ILAS Products Working Group, Task Force on Automatic Exchange of Financial Account Information, Task Force on IA Direct Licensing Regime and LIC Task Force on IFRS 17. He also serves on Stakeholders Steering Committee and Task Force on Vision 2028.

Mr Daswani currently serves as a General Committee member and an Honorary Secretary of the Insurance Complaints Bureau, a member of the Hong Kong Advisory Council of the Chartered Insurance Institute and a Member of the HKSAR Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist Review Tribunal.

Mr Daswani is the Local Chief Executive & Branch Manager of Utmost Worldwide Limited in Hong Kong, and part of the Management Committee of the Company’s regulated branches in both Hong Kong and Singapore. He has been with the firm since 1995. During this time he has gained extensive experience in the international financial services sector having worked at both regional and international levels in various management roles encompassing Business Development, Operations, and Compliance.

Academically, in addition to holding a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Financial Services from Napier University in Edinburgh, an LL.B. from Manchester Metropolitan University, and the Executive Diploma in Management from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, he is a Chartered Insurer, an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute and a Qualified Member of the Personal Finance Society in the UK. Mr Daswani is in addition a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Directors.

General Insurance Council Chairman 2019/2020

Mr Eric Hui is the Deputy Chairman of HKFI and Chairman of the General Insurance Council (GIC). He serves as the Chairman of GIC Legal Working Group and member of various Task Forces including Vision 2028, Employees' Compensation, and GIC Policyholders Protection Scheme.

Mr Hui is the Chief Executive Officer of Zurich Insurance (Hong Kong). He spearheads all strategy development to drive Zurich’s General Insurance and Life Insurance businesses in the territory towards profitable growth. In his nearly 30 years of extensive experience in the insurance industry, Mr Hui has accrued significant accomplishments in leading strategic business initiatives, innovative practices and market developments.

Currently, Mr Hui is a member of the Insurance Training Board under Vocational Training Council and serving in the Motor Insurers’ Bureau of Hong Kong, the Employees Compensation Insurer Insolvency Bureau, the Employees’ Compensation Insurance Residual Scheme Bureau Board and the Insurance Complaints Bureau. He is also a panel member of the Insurance Appeals Tribunal as appointed by the HKSAR Government.

Mr Hui graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong with a Master degree and a Bachelor degree in Business Administration. He holds the professional qualification of Associateship at the Chartered Insurance Institute and is a Fellow at the Life Management Institute.

Mr Guy Mills
Life Insurance Council Chairman 2019/2020

Mr Guy Mills is the Chairman of the Life Insurance Council (LIC) and a member of the HKFI Governing Committee. He is the Chairman of Retirement Schemes Working Group and the member of Task Force on Customer Advocacy and Task Force on Vision 2028.

Mr Mills is the Chief Executive Officer of Manulife (International) Limited, overseeing all Manulife’s businesses and distribution in Hong Kong and Macau, except for mutual-funds business. He is also a Director of the Board of both Manulife (International) Limited and Manulife Asset Management (Hong Kong) Limited. In addition, he is President and Chief Executive Officer of their holding company, Manulife International Holdings Limited.

Mr Mills was formerly CEO of Manulife-Sinochem Life Insurance Company Limited, Manulife’s life insurance joint venture in China. His more than 20 years of career with Manulife also included other operations and IT leadership positions, most notably Chief Operating Officer for Manulife Asia and the first CEO of Manulife Business Processing Services, the company’s global resourcing capabilities facility.

Mr Mills holds an MBA degree from both University of Washington in St. Louis, the US, and Fudan University in Shanghai, China.
