The Hong Kong Federation of Insurers Appoints 2006/2007 New Office Bearers

The Hong Kong Federation of Insurers (HKFI) announces today (Friday, 28 April 2006) the appointment of its Governing Committee for the term 2006/2007:

Mr Leo Ma has over 28 years of insurance experience and has worked in various capacities in a number of insurance and reinsurance organizations while Mr Lo has 23 years experience in insurance industry.

Under the Governing Committee of the HKFI, there are two Councils responsible for dealing with all technical matters concerning general insurance and life insurance respectively. The General Insurance Council is chaired by Ms Agnes Koon while the Life Insurance Council is chaired by Mr James Wong.

"In the year ahead, the new Governing Committee strives for fostering public understanding of our industry and its basic operating principles," said Mr Leo Ma, Chairman of the Hong Kong Federation of Insurers. "This is essential to the strengthening of public confidence in insurance, and we will continue to do our very best to protect the interests of the insuring public."

Established in August 1988, the HKFI enjoys full recognition by the Hong Kong SAR Government as the representative insurer body of the industry. It exists to promote insurance to the people of Hong Kong and build consumer confidence in the industry by promoting high standards of ethics and professionalism amongst its Members.

Mr Leo C H MA

Mr Ma is the Chairman of the Hong Kong Federation of Insurers (HKFI). He is also the Chairman of the Employees' Compensation Insurance Residual Scheme (ECIRS) Advisory Committee and a Co-opt Member of the Provisional ECIRS Bureau Board. He has been a Councillor of the General Insurance Council since 1998 and was elected the Chairman of the General Insurance Council for the term of 2005/2006. Mr Ma also represents the Council on the Working Party on Feasibility of Establishing PPF of the Insurance Authority. In his personal capacity, Mr Ma is appointed by the Hong Kong SAR Government as member of the Elderly Commission and the Travel Industry Compensation Fund Management Board.

Mr Ma was appointed as the General Manager of General Insurance and Employee Benefits of the Prudential Assurance Company Limited in January 2000, which responsible for the development of competitive and balanced general insurance and the employee benefits portfolio of Prudential's Hong Kong operation. At the same time, he is also responsible for business development of the Mandatory Provident Fund business in partnership with BOCI-Prudential.

Mr Ma, a graduate from the ChineseUniversity of Hong Kong and Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute (FCII), has over 28 years of insurance experience and has worked in various capacities in a number of insurance and reinsurance organizations, both in Hong Kong and Canada.

Mr Terry K W Lo

Mr Lo is the Deputy Chairman of the HKFI. He has been a member of the Governing Committee of the HKFI and the Life Insurance Council for years and was the Chairman of the Life Insurance Council in the term of 2003/2004. He was the Deputy Chairman of the Professional Standards Sub-committee under the HKFI Governing Committee, the 2002/2003 Chairman of the Professional Standards Working Group, and the 2001/2002 Chairman of the Life Risk Management Working Group of the Life Insurance Council and Chairman of the Retirement Schemes Working Group under the Life Insurance Council since 2004. He had also served as a Councillor and the Treasurer of the Actuarial Society of Hong Kong.

Mr Lo is presently a member of the Guidelines Committee and MPF Schemes Operation Review Committee of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority, as well as the IIQAS Steering Committee under the Insurance Authority.

Mr Lo is the Chief Executive and Director of two Hong Kong life insurers, namely HSBC Life (International) Limited and Hang Seng Life Limited. He has more than 23 years experience in insurance industry and has obtained the qualification of an actuary in 1988. In 1994, he joined HSBC Life (International) Limited as Chief Financial Officer.

General Insurance Council Chairman 2006/2007
Ms Agnes K O Koon

Ms Koon is the Chairman of General Insurance Council. She has been serving as Councilor of General Insurance Council since 2003 and was the Deputy Chairman of General Insurance Council 2005-06. Ms Koon was elected as member of the Governing Committee of HKFI since 2005 and represents the General Insurance Council to the Insurance Intermediaries Quality Assurance Scheme Steering Committee of the Insurance Authority. To prepare the general insurance industry in the formation of the Employees' Compensation Insurance Residual Scheme, Ms Koon was elected as the Chairman of the Provisional Board.

Ms Koon is a Director & Senior Vice President of Falcon Insurance Company (Hong Kong) Limited. She has extensive experience in general insurance and has been in management role for over 20 years. Ms Koon had overseas postings to Jardine Matheson, Taipei and Continental Insurance Australia for a couple of years.

Ms Koon's bachelor degree was in Social Sciences, with major in Economics, Accounting & Business Management at the University of Hong Kong. She is a Chartered Insurer and an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute. She is also a member of Hong Kong Institute of Human Resource Management

Ms Koon is active in community services. She serves as Vice President of Zonta Club of Kowloon 2004-2006. She is also a Vice President of Hong Kong Women Professional & Entrepreneurs Association 2004-2006.

Life Insurance Council Chairman 2006/2007
Mr James C K Wong

Mr Wong is currently elected as the Chairman of the Life Insurance Council of the HKFI and has been a Councillor of the Life Insurance Council and the Chairman of the Professional Standards Working Group of the Life Insurance Council since 2005. He has been a member of the General Committee of the Insurance Claims Complaints Bureau since 2001.

As a veteran in the life insurance industry, Mr Wong has a wealth of industry experience of over 37 years. Mr Wong is the Chief Executive Officer of The Prudential Assurance Company Limited, who plays a key role in the overall management and sustainable business growth of Prudential's operations in Hong Kong. He has also been appointed as Director of Bank of China International/Prudential Trustee Limited since October 1999.

In the public services arena, Mr Wong is, among others, a member of the Banking Advisory Committee appointed by the Financial Secretary of HKSAR Government, the Employers' Federation of Hong Kong's Special Task Force on Employees Compensation & Assistance Scheme and Special Committee on Mandatory Provident Fund.

Mr Wong graduated from the Pacific Southern University in USA in 1988 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree and he further attained his Master of Business Administration degree from the same University in 1989. He is a Fellow of the Life Office Management Association (LOMA) in USA.

He has more than 23 years experience in insurance industry and has obtained the qualification of an actuary in 1988. In 1994, he joined HSBC Life (International) Limited as Chief Financial Officer.

General Insurance Council Chairman 2006/2007
Ms Agnes K O Koon

Ms Koon is the Chairman of General Insurance Council. She has been serving as Councilor of General Insurance Council since 2003 and was the Deputy Chairman of General Insurance Council 2005-06. Ms Koon was elected as member of the Governing Committee of HKFI since 2005 and represents the General Insurance Council to the Insurance Intermediaries Quality Assurance Scheme Steering Committee of the Insurance Authority. To prepare the general insurance industry in the formation of the Employees' Compensation Insurance Residual Scheme, Ms Koon was elected as the Chairman of the Provisional Board.

Ms Koon is a Director & Senior Vice President of Falcon Insurance Company (Hong Kong) Limited. She has extensive experience in general insurance and has been in management role for over 20 years. Ms Koon had overseas postings to Jardine Matheson, Taipei and Continental Insurance Australia for a couple of years.

Ms Koon's bachelor degree was in Social Sciences, with major in Economics, Accounting & Business Management at the University of Hong Kong. She is a Chartered Insurer and an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute. She is also a member of Hong Kong Institute of Human Resource Management

Ms Koon is active in community services. She serves as Vice President of Zonta Club of Kowloon 2004-2006. She is also a Vice President of Hong Kong Women Professional & Entrepreneurs Association 2004-2006.

Life Insurance Council Chairman 2006/2007
Mr James C K Wong

Mr Wong is currently elected as the Chairman of the Life Insurance Council of the HKFI and has been a Councillor of the Life Insurance Council and the Chairman of the Professional Standards Working Group of the Life Insurance Council since 2005. He has been a member of the General Committee of the Insurance Claims Complaints Bureau since 2001.

As a veteran in the life insurance industry, Mr Wong has a wealth of industry experience of over 37 years. Mr Wong is the Chief Executive Officer of The Prudential Assurance Company Limited, who plays a key role in the overall management and sustainable business growth of Prudential's operations in Hong Kong. He has also been appointed as Director of Bank of China International/Prudential Trustee Limited since October 1999.

In the public services arena, Mr Wong is, among others, a member of the Banking Advisory Committee appointed by the Financial Secretary of HKSAR Government, the Employers' Federation of Hong Kong's Special Task Force on Employees Compensation & Assistance Scheme and Special Committee on Mandatory Provident Fund.

Mr Wong graduated from the Pacific Southern University in USA in 1988 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree and he further attained his Master of Business Administration degree from the same University in 1989. He is a Fellow of the Life Office Management Association (LOMA) in USA.
