The Hong Kong Federation of Insurers Appoints 2005/2006 New Office Bearers

The Hong Kong Federation of Insurers (HKFI) announces today (Friday, 29 April 2005) the appointment of its Governing Committee for the term 2005/2006:

Mr Roddy Anderson has been closely involved in the development of the life insurance industry in Hong Kong for over a decade while Mr Keith Land has more than 25 years of experience in the general insurance industry.

Under the Governing Committee of the HKFI, there are two Councils responsible for dealing with all technical matters concerning general insurance and life insurance respectively. The General Insurance Council is chaired by Mr Leo Ma while the Life Insurance Council is chaired by Mr Raymond Chan.

"The biggest challenge for the new Governing Committee in the year ahead is to foster public understanding of our industry and its basic operating principles," said Mr Roddy Anderson, Chairman of the Hong Kong Federation of Insurers. "This is essential to the strengthening of public confidence in insurance, and we will continue to do our very best to protect the interests of the insuring public."

Established in August 1988, the HKFI enjoys full recognition by the Hong Kong SAR Government as the representative insurer body of the industry. It exists to promote insurance to the people of Hong Kong and build consumer confidence in the industry by promoting high standards of ethics and professionalism amongst its Members.

Mr Roddy S ANDERSON

Mr Anderson is the Chairman of the Hong Kong Federation of Insurers.He has been a member of the Governing Committee of the HKFI and a Councillor of the Life Insurance Council since 1997 and was the Deputy Chairman of the Task Force on EOC Discussion Paper for the term 2003/2004.Mr Anderson was the Chairman of the Health Care Reform in 2004/2005 and 2000/2001 Chairman of the Life Insurance Council. He has also represented the Life Insurance Council on the Insurance Training Board of the Vocational Training Council since 1997. Having served as an Honorary Secretary of the Insurance Claims Complaints Bureau for a number of years, he is elected Chairman since 2001.

Mr Anderson came to Hong Kong in 1993.Being an Executive Director of Dah Sing General Insurance Company Limited and Dah Sing Financial Holdings Limited, which is quoted on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, Mr Anderson is the Vice Chairman of Dah Sing Life Assurance Company Limited, which is part of the Dah Sing Financial Group. Prior to this, he held various senior positions in the financial services divisions of Barclays Bank in the UK and Europe, and has spent the majority of his working career successfully developing the concept of bancassurance.

He qualified as a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of England (FIA) in 1974 and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from the University of Aberdeen in Scotland.

Mr Keith B LAND

Mr Land is currently the Deputy Chairman of the Hong Kong Federation of Insurers.He was Chairman of the General Insurance Council and the Task Force on Employees Compensation, and a member of the Governing Committee of the Hong Kong Federation of Insurers for the term 2004/2005.He was the 2003/2004 Deputy Chairman of the General Insurance Council, a Council member of the Employee Compensation Insurer Insolvency Bureau, Chairman of the Task Force on Employees Compensation – Amended Definition of Occupational Disease Cover, as well as a member of the Task Force on Policyholders’ Protection Funds and the Task Force on Employees Compensation Claim Award Study.He was also the 2003/2004 Chairman of the Motor Insurers’ Bureau of Hong Kong, the Chairman of the Task Force on Employees’ Compensation Review for the term 2001/2002.

Mr Land is the Managing Director of Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance (Hong Kong) Limited and CEO of Royal & Sun Alliance’s China Operation.He has more than 25 years of general insurance experience in the UK and Asia.Prior to joining the Hong Kong operation, Mr Land held various management positions for Royal & Sun Alliance Group plc in UK and India.

Mr Land holds a MBA degree from the Open University in the UK and is a Chartered Insurer and Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute in the UK (FCII).

General Insurance Council Chairman 2005/2006
Mr Leo C H MA

Mr Ma is Chairman of the General Insurance Council 2005/2006.He has been a Councillor of the General Insurance Council since 1998 and was the Deputy Chairman of the General Insurance Council and a Governing Committee member of the Hong Kong Federation of Insurers for the term of 2004/2005. Mr Ma also represents the Council on the Vocational Training Council.

Mr Ma was appointed as the General Manager of General Insurance and Employee Benefits of the Prudential Assurance Company Limited in January 2000, which responsible for the development of competitive and balanced general insurance and the employee benefits portfolio of Prudential’s Hong Kong operation.At the same time, he is also responsible for business development of the Mandatory Provident Fund business in partnership with BOCI-Prudential.

Mr Ma, a graduate from the ChineseUniversity of Hong Kong and Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute (FCII), has over 27 years of insurance experience and has worked in various capacities in a number of insurance and reinsurance organizations, both in Hong Kong and Canada.

Mr Chan is the Life Insurance Council Chairman for the term of 2005/2006.He was a member of the Governing Committee of the Hong Kong Federation of Insurers and Deputy Chairman of the Life Insurance Council in 2004/2005.He has also been the Chairman of the Life Risk Management Working Group under the Life Insurance Council since 2003.

Mr Chan is the Managing Director of Pacific Century Insurance Holdings Limited.He is a Fellow of the Life Management Institute (FLMI) and has 30 years of experience in the insurance industry in the Asia Pacific Region including Hong Kong, Australia and the Mainland China.Prior to joining the Company in March 2003, he was the General Manager of Manulife-Sinochem Life Insurance Company Limited which headquartered in Shanghai.Mr Chan had held senior positions at National Mutual and American International Assurance Company (Bermuda) Limited before joining Manulife.Mr Chan's extensive experience covers a wide spectrum of aspects including underwriting and claims, marketing, product development, finance, systems and procedures, human resources, agency management and general management.

Mr Chan graduated from the Hong KongBaptistCollege (presently known as Hong KongBaptistUniversity) majoring in Business Administration.

General Insurance Council Chairman 2005/2006
Mr Leo C H MA

Mr Ma is Chairman of the General Insurance Council 2005/2006.He has been a Councillor of the General Insurance Council since 1998 and was the Deputy Chairman of the General Insurance Council and a Governing Committee member of the Hong Kong Federation of Insurers for the term of 2004/2005. Mr Ma also represents the Council on the Vocational Training Council.

Mr Ma was appointed as the General Manager of General Insurance and Employee Benefits of the Prudential Assurance Company Limited in January 2000, which responsible for the development of competitive and balanced general insurance and the employee benefits portfolio of Prudential’s Hong Kong operation.At the same time, he is also responsible for business development of the Mandatory Provident Fund business in partnership with BOCI-Prudential.

Mr Ma, a graduate from the ChineseUniversity of Hong Kong and Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute (FCII), has over 27 years of insurance experience and has worked in various capacities in a number of insurance and reinsurance organizations, both in Hong Kong and Canada.

Life Insurance Council Chairman 2005/2006
Mr Raymond P K CHAN

Mr Chan is the Life Insurance Council Chairman for the term of 2005/2006.He was a member of the Governing Committee of the Hong Kong Federation of Insurers and Deputy Chairman of the Life Insurance Council in 2004/2005.He has also been the Chairman of the Life Risk Management Working Group under the Life Insurance Council since 2003.

Mr Chan is the Managing Director of Pacific Century Insurance Holdings Limited.He is a Fellow of the Life Management Institute (FLMI) and has 30 years of experience in the insurance industry in the Asia Pacific Region including Hong Kong, Australia and the Mainland China.Prior to joining the Company in March 2003, he was the General Manager of Manulife-Sinochem Life Insurance Company Limited which headquartered in Shanghai.Mr Chan had held senior positions at National Mutual and American International Assurance Company (Bermuda) Limited before joining Manulife.Mr Chan's extensive experience covers a wide spectrum of aspects including underwriting and claims, marketing, product development, finance, systems and procedures, human resources, agency management and general management.

Mr Chan graduated from the Hong KongBaptistCollege (presently known as Hong KongBaptistUniversity) majoring in Business Administration.
