The HKFI welcomes the Health Care Reform Second Stage Consultation
6/10/2010
The Hong Kong Federation of Insurers (HKFI) welcomes the Government’s launching of the second stage public consultation on health care reform.
"The insurance industry hopes to see the successful implementation of a viable and sustainable health care financing scheme for the good of the community," said Mr Leo Ma, Chairman of the HKFI’s Task Force on Health Care Reform. "However, we cannot and should not under-estimate the challenges and difficulties involved. The success of a voluntary medical insurance scheme would depend on a range of critical factors including proper control of medical costs, effective risk pooling and above all, acceptance by the general public", added Mr Ma.
A special task force has been formed under the HKFI to examine the proposed scheme in detail. We will provide an in-depth analysis of the proposals and recommend what needs to be done to ensure that the scheme is practical, efficient, actuarially sound and commercial viable, whilst providing a positive health insurance solution to the people of Hong Kong. We will make a detailed submission to the Food and Health Bureau before end of the consultation period.
