Latest Update on Insurers’ Relief Operations in Egypt
3/2/2006
The Hong Kong Federation of Insurers (HKFI) provides an update on the insurance industry’s latest relief operations for travellers involved in the Hurghada coach crash.
"Ambulance jets were hired by insurance companies to air-lift seven severely injured travellers to Paris and Zurich respectively for medical treatment," said the Federation's Executive Director, Mr Peter C H Tam.
Air tickets have been booked for nine travellers who suffer from minor injuries to return to Hong Kong tomorrow afternoon. The rest of the travellers will soon be transported to Cairo from Hurghada and assistance will then be provided to facilitate their early return to Hong Kong.
"This is an integral part of the coverage provided by travel insurance policies," Mr Tam added.
Insurance companies have also instructed two international emergency relief service operators to work closely with the immigration officials from Hong Kong to assist in the proper handling and early return of the bodies of the 14 deceased.
