ANNOUNCEMENT Motor and Employees' Compensation (EC) Insurance for policyholders following opening of the Shenzhen Bay Port Hong Kong Port Area

26/6/2007

The Shenzhen Bay Port Hong Kong Port Area (HKPA) will commence operation on 1 July 2007. Following its opening, the HKPA will come under the jurisdiction of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). For all Motor and EC insurance policies issued on or after 1 July 2007, their territorial limit will, in general, automatically cover the HKPA.

As for those policies issued before 1 July 2007, their territorial limit will not automatically include the HKPA. To ensure that all pre-existing Motor and EC policies will also apply to the area, all 60 Motor and EC insurers have recently entered into a legally binding market agreement with the HKSAR Government extending their coverage to include the HKPA at no extra cost to policyholders.

The names of the 60 insurers and details of the agreement can be found at websites of the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance (OCI) at www.oci.gov.hk and The Hong Kong Federation of Insurers (HKFI) at www.hkfi.org.hk.

For enquiries, please contact Mr Jimmy Tang of OCI at 2867 2560 or Mr Burnic Fu of HKFI at 2861 9333.
