Acting Financial Secretary officiates at the Opening Ceremony of the 30th East Asian Insurance Congress

The 30th East Asian Insurance Congress (EAIC 2024) which opened today (September 24, 2024) and runs for four days attracted over 1,000 insurers, reinsurers, brokers, regulators, experts as well as insurance young talents from over 30 cities and countries. The Congress, hosted every two years, has become the platform for global top-notch insurance leaders to explore the transformative opportunities and challenges that lie ahead for the insurance industry in fast-rising East Asia.
Under the theme of “Back to the Future – Empowering East Asian Insurers for 2044 and Beyond”, the Congress brings insights on the eight key topics. From regional economic to insurance ecosystem, from technology to sustainability, each topic is accompanied by a renowned movie title, effectively highlighting the subject and enhancing its memorability.
“This conference marks the third time Hong Kong in hosting this prestigious gathering” said Ms Sally Wan, Chairperson of 30th EAIC Organising Committee in her welcoming remarks, “What sets EAIC apart from other insurance conferences is the remarkable balance it strikes between solid industry discussions and a fun-loving vibe, fostering a sense of fraternity among member cities.”
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Acting Financial Secretary, Mr Wong Wai Lun, Michael, highlighted that Hong Kong is one of the world’s most open and dynamic insurance centres, leading Asia in insurance density, ranking second globally with an impressive average of US$8,769 in insurance premiums per capita. Hong Kong also holds the title for the highest insurance penetration rate in the world at 17.2%. They demonstrate there is robust demand in Hong Kong for a diverse array of insurance products. They also show that Hong Kong is a highly attractive market, providing great opportunities to both local and international insurers. He also thanked the Hong Kong Federation of Insurers and the East Asian Insurance Congress Organising Committee for their excellent work in making the event possible and ensuring that everything is smooth and successful.
