The Hong Kong Federation of Insurers Appoints 2020/2021 New Office Bearers

The Hong Kong Federation of Insurers (HKFI) announces today (29 April 2020) the appointment of its Governing Committee for the term 2020/2021:

Mr Eric Hui has nearly 30 years of extensive experience in the insurance industry and accrued significant accomplishments in leading strategic business initiatives, innovative practices and market developments. Mr Edward Moncreiffe has served in a variety of senior executive positions across Broking, Underwriting, Reinsurance, Life and Non-life insurance business lines as well as working in Group Strategy.
 
Under the Governing Committee of the HKFI, there are two Councils responsible for dealing with all technical matters concerning general insurance and life insurance respectively. The General Insurance Council is chaired by Ms Winnie Wong while the Life Insurance Council is chaired by Mr Edward Moncreiffe.
 
Established in August 1988, the HKFI enjoys full recognition by the Hong Kong SAR Government as the representative insurer body of the industry. It exists to promote insurance to the people of Hong Kong and build consumer confidence in the industry by promoting high standards of ethics and professionalism amongst its Members.

Mr Eric Hui
The Hong Kong Federation of Insurers (HKFI) Chairman 2020/2021

Mr Eric Hui is the Chairman of HKFI and a Councillor of the General Insurance Council (GIC). He serves as the Chairman of GIC InsurTech Task Force and a member of Task Force on Vision 2028 and GIC Legal Working Group.

Mr Hui is the Chief Executive Officer of Zurich Insurance (Hong Kong). He spearheads all strategy development to drive Zurich’s General Insurance and Life Insurance businesses in the territory towards profitable growth. In his nearly 30 years of extensive experience in the insurance industry, Mr Hui has accrued significant accomplishments in leading strategic business initiatives, innovative practices and market developments.

Currently, Mr Hui is the Deputy Chairman of the Employees Compensation Insurer Insolvency Bureau, a General Committee Member of the Insurance Complaints Bureau, and serving as a Committee Member under the Hong Kong Trade Development Council Belt and Road & Greater Bay Area Committee, the Insurance Training Board of Vocational Training Council, the Motor Insurers’ Bureau of Hong Kong, the Employees’ Compensation Insurance Residual Scheme Bureau Board, and the Insurance Management Committee of the Hong Kong Management Association. He is also a panel member of the Insurance Appeals Tribunal and the Resolution Compensation Tribunal as appointed by the HKSAR Government.

Mr Hui graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong with a Master degree and a Bachelor degree in Business Administration. He holds the professional qualification of Associateship at the Chartered Insurance Institute and is a Fellow at the Life Management Institute.

Life Insurance Council Chairman 2020/2021

Mr Edward Moncreiffe is the Deputy Chairman of HKFI and the Chairman of Life Insurance Council (LIC). He also serves as the Chairman of the Task Force on IFRS 17 under LIC, and is a member of the Economic Policy Committee and Financial & Treasury Services Committee of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce.

Ed is the Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Life (International) Limited, overseeing HSBC’s insurance business in Hong Kong and Macao.

Since joining HSBC Group in 2005, Ed has served in a variety of senior executive positions across Broking, Underwriting, Reinsurance, Life and Non-life insurance business lines as well as working in Group Strategy. Prior to moving to Hong Kong in 2016, Ed was Head of Life and Pensions for HSBC Brazil.

He holds a BA (Hons) from University of Durham, UK and a MBA from University of Chicago Booth School. Ed is also a Chartered Insurer of the Chartered Insurance Institute.

Ms Winnie Wong
General Insurance Council Chairman 2020/2021

Ms Winnie Wong is the Chairman of General Insurance Council (GIC) and a Governing Committee member of Hong Kong Federation of Insurers. She also serves as the Chairman of Task Force on Insurance-linked Securities and a member of GIC InsurTech Task Force.

Winnie is the CEO & Executive Director of Asia Insurance Company Limited (a leading composite insurance company in Hong Kong) and Avo Insurance Company Limited. Prior to Asia Insurance, she was the CEO of Aon Risk Solutions Hong Kong/Macau and Assistant General Manager of Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance. She has over 20 years’ experience in Insurance and Risk Management Consulting.

She is a recognized industry expert, regularly speaking at a number of industry conferences and is very active in the insurance industry and community. She is currently a Board Member of the Financial Services Development Council (FSDC) / Convenor of the New Business Committee of FSDC. She also sits on The Human Resources Planning Commission, The Independent Commission on Remuneration for Members of the Executive Council and the Legislature, and Officials under the Political Appointment system of the HKSAR, The Resolvability Review Tribunal, Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Advisory Committee, Higher Rights Assessment Board, HKTDC Belt and Road Committee - Professional Services Working Group and FSTB Steering Committee on the Pilot Program to Enhance Talent Training for the Insurance Sector.

Winnie is also a Councilor of Motor Insurers’ Bureau of Hong Kong and Employees Compensation Insurer Insolvency Bureau. She is a member and Honorary Treasurer of Zonta Club of New Territories, Director of the Alumni Association of Shaw College of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and the MBA Alumni Advisory Board of The HK University of Science & Technology (HKUST). She was Chairperson of the Fire Insurance Association in 2003 and first female President of the Hong Kong Insurers Club in 2008.

Winnie was graduated from CUHK, obtained an MBA Degree from HKUST and completed the International Management Development Program at The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She is also a Chartered Insurance Practitioner and fellow member (FCII) of the Chartered Insurance Institute (UK), Associate in Risk Management (ARM) of the Insurance Institute of America.
