The Hong Kong Federation of Insurers Appoints 2014/2015 New Office Bearers

The Hong Kong Federation of Insurers (HKFI) announces today (Wednesday, 30 April 2014) the appointment of its Governing Committee for the term 2014/2015:

Mr Jimmy W F Poon has over 30 years of experience in general insurance with expertise in underwriting, reinsurance, product development, sales and marketing.  Mr Mike S C Lee has over 20 years of various management experiences in the life insurance industry.
 
Under the Governing Committee of the HKFI, there are two Councils responsible for dealing with all technical matters concerning general insurance and life insurance respectively. The General Insurance Council is chaired by Mr Ronnie W F Ng while the Life Insurance Council is chaired by Mr Stuart Fraser.
 
Established in August 1988, the HKFI enjoys full recognition by the Hong Kong SAR Government as the representative insurer body of the industry and is responsible for the administration of close to 70,000 registered insurance agents in the territory.  It exists to promote insurance to the people of Hong Kong and build consumer confidence in the industry by promoting high standards of ethics and professionalism amongst its Members.

Mr Jimmy W F Poon
The Hong Kong Federation of Insurers (HKFI) Chairman 2014/2015

Mr Jimmy Poon is the Chairman of the HKFI and a Councillor of HKFI’s General Insurance Council (GIC).  In the term of 2013/2014, he was HKFI’s Deputy Chairman and Chairman of the Task Force on Greater China Affairs, GIC Task Forces on Captive Insurance and Consultancy Study on Risk-based Capital Framework.  Mr Poon also served as a member of various task forces groups, including Apprenticeship Programme, Commission Disclosure under the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance, the Independence of the Insurance Authority, Policyholders' Protection Fund, Prevention of Insurance Fraud & Claims Database, Review of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance and GIC Task Force on Employees’ Compensation Terrorism.  He was also a member of Accident Insurance Association (AIA) and a Task Force Member of Travel Insurance under AIA.
 
Mr Poon is currently a member of Employees’ Compensation Insurance Levies Management Board, Employees Compensation Insurance Residual Scheme Board and Travel Industry Compensation Fund Management Board.  He also represents the HKFI and GIC at the Committee on Employees’ Compensation of the Labour Advisory Board, the Advisory Board of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre, IIQAS Steering Committee under the Insurance Authority, Road Safety Council, Insurance Training Board of the Vocational Training Council. He is also the Honorary Secretary of the Insurance Claims Complaints Bureau.  In addition, Mr Poon has been participating in various industry organizations. He is appointed as the Deputy Chairman of Motor Insurers' Bureau of Hong Kong and the Advisory Board Member of the Hong Kong Export Credit Insurance Corporation.
 
Mr Poon, the Chief Executive Officer of Dah Sing Insurance Company (1976) Limited, is responsible for the development of general insurance business of Dah Sing Financial Group.
 
Mr Poon holds an ANZII (Assoc) qualification and a Master degree in Business Management, has over 30 years of experience in general insurance with expertise in underwriting, reinsurance, product development, sales and marketing.

Mr Mike S C Lee
The Hong Kong Federation of Insurers (HKFI) Deputy Chairman 2014/2015

Mr Mike Lee is the Deputy Chairman of the HKFI and a Councillor of the HKFI’s Life Insurance Council (LIC).  In the term of 2013/2014, he was the Chairman of LIC and a member of the HKFI’s Governing Committee.  He also served on HKFI’s various task forces, including Apprenticeship Programme, Consultancy Study on Risk-based Capital Framework, the Independence of the Insurance Authority, Medical Claims Practice Review, Prevention of Insurance Fraud & Claims Database, Population Policy and LIC's Renminbi Life Insurance Products and Sales Remuneration.
 
He has wide experience serving the insurance industry.  He is a member of the General Committee of the Insurance Claims Complaints Bureau and the Products Advisory Committee of Securities and Futures Commission.  Mr Lee was also a member of the Insurance Agents Registration Board and the Insurance Claims Complaint Panel for many years.
 
Mr Lee is currently the Senior Vice President - Operations of MassMutual Asia Limited and has over 20 years of diversified management experiences in the life insurance industry.
 
Mr Lee graduated from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and subsequently received a Graduate Diploma in Management from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.  He also holds the Fellow of the Life Management Institute (FLMI) qualification.

Mr Ronnie W F Ng
General Insurance Council Chairman 2014/2015

Mr Ronnie Ng is the Chairman of the General Insurance Council (GIC) and a member of the Governing Committee of HKFI. In the term of 2013/2014, he served as Chairman of the Task Force on Employees' Compensation Terrorism, a member of the Task Force on Employees' Compensation and a Delegate of the Accident Insurance Association under GIC.
 
Mr Ng is currently the Chairman of the Board and a member of the Advisory Committee of the Employees' Compensation Insurance Residual Scheme Bureau (ECIRSB). He was the Deputy Chairman of ECIRSB for the term 2011/2012. He is also an Honorary Secretary of the Insurance Claims Complaints Bureau, a Council Member of the Employees Compensation Insurer Insolvency Bureau, and a Director of the Chinese Insurance Association of Hong Kong.
 
As the founder, Mr Ng has been the Chief Executive of China Overseas Insurance Limited since 2002, who is responsible for the overall management and development of the company. He has over 27 years of experience in general insurance and reinsurance underwriting, brokering, business development and strategic planning in Hong Kong and overseas.
 
Mr Ng holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada and a Master Degree of Business Administration (General Management) from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He is a Fellow of the Insurance Institute of Canada (FIIC) and a Senior Associate of the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF Snr Assoc). He also holds the Canadian Risk Management (CRM) and Fellow Risk Management (FRM) designations awarded by the Canadian Risk and Insurance Management Society (CRIMS).

Mr Stuart Fraser
Life Insurance Council Chairman 2014/2015

Mr Stuart Fraser is the Chairman of the Life Insurance Council (LIC) and a member of the Governing Committee. For the last five terms, he has been the Chairman of the LIC’s Investment-linked Assurance Schemes (ILAS) Products Working Group and has served as a member of the Task Force on ILAS Sales Process.
 
Mr Fraser is a member of the Advisory Committee of the Investor Education Centre.  Established in November 2012 and supported by the four financial regulators in Hong Kong, the Investor Education Centre (IEC) is a dedicated organisation with the mission of improving financial literacy in Hong Kong.
 
Mr Fraser is the Chief Executive Officer of Ageas Insurance Company (Asia) Ltd.  He has extensive experience in the financial services sector gained from the UK and Asian markets.  He has worked at both regional and operational levels in Asia for over 20 years; the last 12 years at CEO level in Hong Kong.
 
He served as an Honoury Panel of Advisors and Lecturers for Warnborough College, Ireland and was a founding and non-executive director of the Kitchee Foundation which promotes the development of junior football in Hong Kong.
 
Mr Fraser holds a Master of Arts Degree in Marketing from the University of Central England, UK and a Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing, UK.  He is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute, and is a Chartered Insurer.
